Chris Plewes is an oil painter, specializing in impressionist portraiture with bold brushwork and dramatic realism. His work shows a wide range of influences from the Renaissance, to Nineteenth Century academic styles, to contemporary realism.

Born in Toronto Canada, he is a graduate of OCAD (1982). Trained in painting and graphic design, Chris brings a contemporary design sensibility of colour and composition to his classic medium.

His goal is to capture the essence of the subject with authentic, sparing brushwork. He lets the true character and energy of the subject speak, rather than arbitrary and contrived style.
